While designing Thannal cob homes for Thannal workers we kept this Growing tree as our center point in our design composition, so the whole structure started growing around this tree and our drain.

Houses are designed and built-in principles followed by Thannal – natural and local materials, minimal consumption of resources, cost-effective, indigenous methods found near the site and use of traditional plant and animal derivatives in construction.
Divided into five categories
- Owner’s build – Made by the owner themself or with their family and friends, or with the help of a few workers.
- Professionals in Natural Buildings – Architects, Engineers, Interior Designers, and Contractors who have signing authorities to do a building
- Self-trained natural builders – Farmers, artists, travellers, fashion designers, research scientists, teachers, government employees and many more.
- Artisans/ Masons – Plasterers, Carpenters, Master masons, and other area-skilled people in Natural building and craft
- Thannalites – Students of natural buildings who have worked under founders of Thannal – Biju Anna and Sindhu Akka
who am i mud hut
Who am I mud house has a loft made of bamboo and a small kitchen. West wall has an art work using broken tiles and bottles. This side is also carved using chisel.

Summer started in Thiruvannamalai, our growing trees started giving shades. Especially our mud structure is really cool inside. Our beloved friend Shihab Kader, a photographer visited us
