Inn for Natural Hygiene
Vadakara – Kerala
Vadakara – Kerala
Bridju, a fire fighter from Vadakara Kerala, participated in our workshop with a colleague and four masons, seeking to learn traditional construction techniques. These local masons were determined to secure a steady income by getting skilled in Mud as the surplus worker migration to Kerala for conventional construction practices put them jobless. Their union opened up his under-construction Natural Hygiene Workshop Center or Prakriti jeevanam center (completed till Foundation) to practice and learn natural building techniques. Spaces were already designed as per strict Vastu principles, for teaching and staying purposes for participants of workshop. Mud from site, Lime extracted from sea-shells through a kiln by workers on site, coconut coir fiber, herbal mixes and natural gums are used in Cob for Walls. Lime is stored after extraction in an underground tank finished with lime plaster. The structure is planned two-storeyed (1600 sq ft)
